Not always - it really depends on what you reveal in your application form.
The original quotation based simply on your age and whether you smoke will assume that
you are in good health, you do not have a dangerous job, you have no history of hereditary
ill-health, you do not have dangerous pastimes, you don't regularly visit countries with
known health problems and you have a generally healthy lifestyle.
If any of these assumptions are not correct then this will be revealed in your application
form, and the insurance company will want more information. They may even want you to have
a medical, but it doesn't necessarily mean that they will want to charge you more.
In our experience, only 12% of people who apply for life insurance do not qualify for
the initial quoted price.
