So what else can cause delays?

If there is anything on your Application that needs to be looked at by one of the Insurance Company's specialist Underwriters i.e. you have a job that puts your health at risk, then delays are inevitable.

If after consideration the Underwriter is happy to approve your Application, then the delay will usually be up to two weeks.

In approximately 1 of 7 cases the Underwriter will decide that he/she needs more information about you. This will most commonly be related to health issues but your job or even hobbies can prompt them into wanting more information, in which case you will receive a supplementary questionnaire in the post which you will need to complete and return.

With health queries, the Underwriter may decide to write to your Doctor for information, ask you to have a quick 'mini-medical', or a full medical. The insurance company always picks up the entire cost of these medical reports. Only 1 in 10 of applicants are asked for additional medical information - so don't be alarmed it's quite common.

However, if a medical report is required it will slow down your insurance application quite considerably. Doctors are not renowned for their swift response to insurance company's requests for information! Expect a delay of 6 to 8 weeks.
