Medical history is a very important factor, and will have a very significant bearing
on your life insurance premiums.
When your insurer calculates your premium, they are using their many years of experience
with millions of customers to see how you fit into the scale, and to predict how long you
will live. With Critical Illness Insurance, they also need to work out if you are at risk
of becoming seriously ill before the end of your policy.
To make these calculations the insurance company will look at your age, whether you smoke,
your job and your health record. If you have a health record that suggests you may have
future health problems, or you want an especially high level of insurance cover, they are
likely to ask for more information about your health.
To check your health the insurer may decide to write to your Doctor for verification of
your health (they will ask your permission first) or request that you have a quick "mini-medical" or
a full medical. You do not have to pay for any medical examinations, the insurance company
will cover the costs.
