Your loan documentation will tell you whether you can defer a payment. Look at the document entitled "Terms and Conditions".
Some lenders offer a repayment holiday at the beginning of a loan. This is basically a marketing ploy to persuade you to choose them to borrow from or buy a particular product to which the credit is linked. These sorts of offer are particularly common during the long run up to Christmas and during the sales in the new year when family budgets tend to be particularly stretched. These sorts of repayment holiday can be quite extensive - some do not require you to start repaying for 12 months.
You may also be able to have a repayment holiday during the middle of the agreement. But always check your Terms and Conditions and if in doubt contact your lender.
If you are having problems making your repayments and really need a repayment holiday to help you get your finances in order, then phone your lender and talk to them about your problem. You will be surprised how keen they will be to assist especially if up to that date, you have made your repayments regularly and on time.
