How much can I borrow (with a debt consolidation loan)?

When it comes to the amount you can borrow, debt consolidation loans are very much the same as normal personal loans.

The fundamental issues to your lender are affordability - whether you can afford to keep up the repayments - whether your credit history indicates that you can reliably handle credit and whether your loan is secured.

All three of these factors are important to your lender, but the bigger the loan and the poorer your credit history, the more likely it will be that your lender will insist that your loan is secured.

Typically unsecured debt consolidation loans will allow you to borrow between £3,000 and £15,000. However if you have a home with sufficient equity in it (i.e. the difference between the resale vale of your home less the value of any debts secured upon it) and all the other factors are OK, you will probably be able to get a secured loan up to £100,000 and more.
