What can I do if I believe that the information held about me by a credit reference agency is wrong?

Firstly you need to see the information being held on your credit report. You can do this by contacting each of the major credit reference agencies - see the contact details below. Under UK law, you are entitled to buy a copy of your credit file and they will cost £2 each.

If the information on your credit file is incorrect or out of date, you will have to discuss the problem with the credit agency. They will advise you what you have to do to get the information corrected. However, be aware that they will not simply take your word for it! The agency will need to receive documentary evidence of their error or receive a correction notice from the financial institution that was responsible for sending them the incorrect information.
